Dr. Kären van der Veer, NDDr. Kären van der Veer began her professional life as a visual artist, gallery director and dancer. In 1993, while fulfilling an artist residency at the University of New Mexico she made the decision to pursue a career in Medicine. She found that the principles of Naturopathic Medicine seemed "amazingly simple, just and profound" and were more in alignment with her own philosophies and intention than traditional allopathic medicine. Kären 's life is characterized by great passion and devotion. She maintains a great love for art, dance and music and has a long standing and avid interest in yoga and swimming: "the water is my liberation and, like yoga, has the ability to ground me, completely, in my body and breath. Too bad you can't do 'down dog' in the water." Currently, Dr. van der Veer works as a General Practice Physician providing a range of Naturopathic Therapeutics to her patients including acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutritional counseling. She is trained in counseling and known for her compassionate listening ear. Her other involvements include starting her own non-profit organization, the Medicine Tree, to provide the Hepatitis and HIV communities with Naturopathic treatment, education and research, and being "Mom" to an amazing son. |
