Donna Helm-YostDonna began practicing yoga and exploring Eastern Philosophy at the age of 12. She blends both Eastern and Western Philosophies in her teaching style—interweaving her innate sense of the Spiritual with her Western training as a psychologist. To Donna, the physical practice of yoga is an amazing, beautiful and challenging journey from the head to the heart. As we release stress and blocked energy from our physical bodies, it reveals the light of our Divine Essence and the perfection of the present moment. Donna’s Flow classes are influenced by her love of Astanga and its purifying effects on both the body and mind. Her Yin classes incorporate specific sequencing of long held poses to encourage chi flow through the Meridian system of the body. Donna also includes meditation, mantra, visualization, and discussion of sacred texts, like the Yoga Sutras, to encourage her students to focus on their true Divine nature. In addition to being a school psychologist and a yoga instructor, Donna is the Founder of The Karma Yoga Project—a non-profit organization created to make the planet healthier, people happier, and the world a better place for all beings. One hundred percent of the proceeds for her donation workshops and one hundred percent of the profits from sales of her DVD, Flow and Yin: A Balanced Yoga Practice, are being used to support her humanitarian efforts. With the support of her friends and colleagues at Arizona State University, Donna is also designing a research study for Beyond the Orphanage, an organization assisting orphaned teens in Ethiopia. The results of this study could potentially assist organizations across the planet to more effectively help and empower orphaned teens.
