Girish Live in Concert this Saturday Night
What's the plan for this Saturday night? Dinner and movie? Bowling? Maybe dinner and a movie...or bowling. How about a night of live music with the rising star of the yoga music world, GIRISH. Considered a combination of Krishna Das and Dave Matthews, Girish's chant music combines elements of pop, Indian, folk, and jazz to create a musical experience that is incredibly infectious and deeply moving. Rocking the house this Saturday night at 8pm at the Phoenix studio, Girish is a must-see.
Following is a brief interview with Girish:
Q: Who are your musical influences?
A: I love Beck, Ani DiFranco, Indian classical music, Jane Siberry, Elvis Costello, Lyle Lovett, Mahler. It's funny being a chant artist who finds himself mostly listening to singer-songwriters who write in English, but that's what connects for me.
Q:. In your eyes, what is the future of yoga and the Chant genre of music?
A: I hope that chant will move in the direction of everyone taking up his or her own chanting practice at home, finding a way to integrate that into daily life. That'll enrich people's lives and also deepen our shared experience when we come together to chant as a community.

Yoga and Chocolate
Yoga teacher and At One Yoga co-founder David Romanelli and Vosges Haut Chocolat (www.vosgeschocolate.com) founder and chocolatier Katrina Markoff have been great friends since their college years. Katrina and David realized their careers each involved a unique type of "fusion." Katrina was fusing chocolate with curry, wasabe and chiles to create the Vosges experience. David was fusing the 5,000 year old practice of yoga with modern music ranging from Frank Sinatra to Puff Daddy and everything in between to create Yeah Dave Yoga. Katrina and David launched the Yoga + Chocolate experience in a 2004 retreat to Oaxaca, Mexico. Featured in THE NEW YORK TIMES and BREATHE MAGAZINE, the Yoga + Chocolate experience comes to At One Yoga on Saturday, November 12th. There is nothing better to free the mind than flowing yoga, delicious chocolate, and great music ... imagine all three in one amazing experience! |
